Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the most popular intervention among other plastic surgeries. This is because the nose occupies a central position on the face and plays an important role when we assess a person’sappearance. If its form is not  correct and beautiful, as well as its disproportionate size, this provokes not only an external defect but also causes a feeling of constant discomfort.

Plastic surgery allows eliminating any congenital and acquired defects of the external nose. The ultra-precise equipment at GRACE Centre in the hands of experienced surgeons is the key to the success of the operation. We offer a high level of quality for the best price.

What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is performed to improve the specific features of the nose that impair the appearance in order to obtain a more harmonious aesthetic combination of the nose with other features of the face.

Duration ofsurgery: 40-120 minutes

Rehabilitation: 7-10 days

Our approach to rhinoseptoplasty:

  • Choosing the new, most natural and harmonious shape of nose taking into account the physiological characteristics of the patient and the state of her nasal septum.
  • Use of unique 3D-modelling equipment to create an exact 3D-model of the nose after rhinoseptoplasty.
  • Increased attention to the safety of Patients.
  • Reduction of rehabilitation period 2-3 times in comparison with other clinics.

Psychological and other motives

  • Discontent due to excessive length of nose.
  • Psychological complexes due to large nostrils.
  • Elimination of the hump on the nose.
  • Thickened or turned-up tip of the nose.
  • Saddle-shaped nose
  • Bulges in front of the tip of the nose.
  • The desire to have more perfect and correct form of a turned-up nose.

Medical indications for surgery

  • Deformation of the nose due to trauma
  • Congenital defect in the structure of the nose.
  • Impaired breathing
  • Snoring during sleep.

Methods of open rhinoplasty

Upon open rhinoplasty, the incisions are made on the column of the nose as well as in its cavity. The skin is separated from the skeleton of the nose. All stages of the operation are controlled by visual inspection. At the end of the operation, the stitches are put which are removed after a few days. Incisions in the nasal cavity are closed with self-absorbing threads that do not require further removal. Tampons are placed in the nostrils, and a plaster bandage is applied on the nose.

The advantages of the method: Optimal solution for complex cases, such as reconstruction of the nose.

The disadvantages of the method: After surgery, a large swelling and a small scar may appear which resolve over time.

Methods of closed rhinoplasty
Upon closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made in the nasal cavity and they are cannot be visualised. Most of the stages of rhinoplasty are performed blindly, thus, the corrections during the closed rhinoplasty allows minimal corrections. At the end of the operation, a plaster bandage is applied to the nose and tampons are placed in the nostrils.

The advantages of the method: After the surgery, the swelling is insignificant and a scar in not visible.

The disadvantages of the method: During the operation, it is difficult for a doctor to examine the nasal cavity. This can complicate the correction of serious defects.

Types of rhinoplasty
Types of rhinoplasty are classified in accordance with the goals and objectives of surgical intervention.

Reduction of the nose involves adjusting its size and shape as it is disproportionately large according the other features of the face. The operation is indicated if the patient desires to reduce the nose and make its shape more accurate and elegant, correct the asymmetric bridge of the nose and also when the reduction will allow normalizing of nasal breathing.

The nose is enlarged if it is disproportionately small compared to the other features of the face.

Plastic surgery of the nose tip is conducted in order to correct the size and shape of its cartilage (nose tip). The operation is indicated if the tip has an aesthetically unattractive appearance: too large, flattened, asymmetric.

Elimination of the hump of the nose allows making the nose more even.

The reconstruction of the nose is carried out with the purpose of restoring the external and internal structures of the nose that are injured as a result of trauma.

Types of implants in rhinoplasty

Homogenic cartilage. In this case, the material is obtained from the patient’s own cartilage: the central part of the septum of the nose, the auricle, the surface of the rib. The advantage of this type of plastic surgery is that the risk of infection decreases and there are no implant failures. Implantation of own tissues contributes to the long-term functional and aesthetic result of rhinoplasty.

Allogenic cartilage. If it is impossible to use the patient’s own tissues, a conservative donor cartilage is used. Possible risks include a high probability of the implant failure (if the body’s immune cells recognise a new cartilage as a foreign body) and an increased risk of infection.

Artificial implants. The use of ready-made silicone or polyethene implants, as a rule, shortens the duration of the surgical intervention. Such implants should have a high level of areactivity and hypoallergenicity, so that not to provoke the immune system for implant failure.

Self-preparation for surgery

  • During the first day, a patient should stay in the inpatient unit a hospital and have rest. In the case of painful sensations, the doctor prescribes her painkillers.
  • During 7 days after surgery, the patient should wear a special bandage. During this period, it is recommended to sleep on the back with an elevated head (on a high pillow). Also, it is forbidden to blow your nose
  • During one month, steam baths, sauna, solarium, and sunbathing are prohibited as well as doing active sports and swimming.
  • During 2 months, the skin of the nose area should be treated especially carefully, the mechanical cleansing of the face is contraindicated. In addition, doctors strongly recommend not to wear glasses.

During rehabilitation period, food rich in vitamins, microelements and all necessary substances should be included in a patient’s diet.

Possible complications

After rhinoplasty The patient will experience minor discomfort due to partial blocking of the airways, swelling and irritation will also occur however these symptoms will resolve in a few days. In rare cases, bleeding, infection, change or loss of sense of smell are possible.

However, the ten-year experience of physicians at GRACE, the use of high-quality technologies and medications and careful approach at GRACE to the safety minimise the incidence of the above-listed risks.

Specific aspects of the postoperative period

Detailed consultation is the key to a successful operation
The duration of the primary consultation on septoplasty at GRACE lasts on average 40-50 minutes. This time is necessary to discuss with the patient her medical history, previous injuries, allergic reactions and nose surgery The surgeon discusses with a patient in detail all the problems that she experiences due to the nasal septum and its aesthetic properties. Then the doctor takes notes of the patient’s desires.

During the consultation, we always strive to help our patients to create the correct understanding of perineoplasty. We will reconstruct the exact 3D-simulation of a new nose and simulate different variations of the final appearance using a unique equipment Vectra ХТ 3D. Within 15 minutes, a patient will be able to see how her nose will look like after the surgery and make corrections according to her preferences
