Endovenous laser ablation

Endovenous laser ablation can be performed on outpatient basis or under local anaesthesia. In this case, instead of vein removal, a thermal processing of a vein wall is performed from the side of the lumen with high-energy laser device. This leads to vein sclerosis. The surgery is minimally traumatic and does not involve work capacity restriction. As a result of the procedure, your legs will get a pleasant appearance.

EVLA involves elimination of pathological reflux by closing the great or small saphenous vein. Single-use optical fiber with radial emission (of 1470 nm) allows processing venous vessels of big diameter and with less traumatization.

Duration:  about 40 minutes; however, since it is rarely performed separately, but is complemented with microphlebectomy or sclerotherapy, it can take 1.5-2 hours.

Our approach to the surgery:
Indications for EVLA (endovenous laser ablation) are determined after duplex ultrasound scan, during consultation with phlebologist. Only affected veins of magistral type are subject to thermal processing. This method is not performed for veins located in subcutaneous tissue, in proximity to the skin. In most cases, it is complemented with collateral vein microphlebectomy through punctures and small incisions.

Varicose superficial veins with pathological reflux.

Preparation for the surgery:
In two weeks before the surgery, it is necessary to stop taking hormonal drugs. If it is impossible, it is necessary to coordinate further actions with the doctor.
2 days before the surgery, it is necessary to stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs.
It is necessary to take a hygienic shower in the morning and wash legs with regular soap.
It is necessary to appear at the clinic in fasting state wearing comfortable, loose clothes and shoes.

Specific aspects of the postoperative period:

  • After the surgery, you are provided with compression garments (stockings).
  • For several days, it is necessary to use garments round-the-clock. Duration of the further daily use will depend on the disease stage and the extent of additional microphlebectomy.
  • Period of vein sclerosing can take several months.
  • As a rule, follow-up ultrasound, result evaluation and determining of additional microphlebectomy or sclerotherapy necessity are performed in 2-3 months.

Consultation before the surgery:
The consultation takes about one hour. It involves as follows: ultrasound diagnostics, discussion of surgical indications, surgical extent and special aspects of postoperative period with phlebologist. The doctor examines your disease history, previous traumas and allergic reactions.
